Are we waiting for a kingdom that has already come? The first century Jews missed their Messiah waiting for a political kingdom that would free them from their slavery to Rome. Are we missing the kingdom of God today waiting for the millennial reign of Christ? Are we being duped and distracted by books by authors like Edgar Whisenant, a retired NASA rocket engineer sold 4.5 million copies of "88 Reasons Why the Rapture will be in 1988." When it didn't happen his revision was entitled "89 Reasons Why the Rapture will be in 1989." This book is about the present kingdom of God "at hand" and "within us." God's kingdom is the way the universe works. Every particle in the universe and every living cell have the imprint of Christ. Everything is destined to work His way.
The kingdom of God is God's total order expressed in the individual, society and universe when all are surrendered to God and it will replace every unworkable world order. Everything outside the kingdom of God will destroy itself. This is the vision of the kingdom of God that will give all men a firm foundation on which to stand. Participating in this kingdom will give man his significance and security. Lining up with the principles of the kingdom lines us up with the way the universe works. The world is desperately looking for the kingdom of God and doesn't know it, and Jesus came to teach and establish God's kingdom.
