Dr. April V. Martin was published in Who's Who Among American High School Students for maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. At the University of Maryland College Park, she was on the National Dean's List all four years and obtained a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and criminology, a master's degree and a doctorate degree in psychology. Dr. Martin has been employed with the Department of the Treasury for twenty years and is also in the real estate field. She has participated in several speaking panels on topics ranging from the mass shootings in Florida to self-care and has been featured on Fox 5 DC News, Fox 45 News Baltimore, and The Community Focus Show, hosted by 95.
5's Guy Lambert. She has been interviewed by her college alumni organization on stress in the workplace as well as by the University of Maryland Black Alumni association for a "Terp Spotlight" on her life since graduation. Dr. Martin founded Achieving Mental Victory, Inc., a nonprofit mental health practice helping to combat the stigma against mental illness. She is married to her college sweetheart and they have three beautiful daughters.
