The author joined the British Army at sixteen, two years after years after leaving school. In the early sixties he returned from the Persian Gulf to the freezing conditions of the Brecon Beacons to successfully complete his selection course and become a founding member of the Special Reconnaissance Squadron (SRS). When this unit disbanded he re-joined his parent regiment on active service in Malaya, Borneo, Sarawak and Brunei. He went on to serve for thirty one years in the army, sixteen of them in Northern Ireland during the troubles. After completing his military career he took up a position as a sales manager with an office equipment company in Belfast, and later, with the help of a partner, took ownership of the company. David is now retired and continues to live in Northern Ireland with his wife Jacqueline on the north Antrim coast.
