As a young boy, Mark Macedonia was captivated by the novels of Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson-adventure books that whisked readers imagination to far off, exotic lands. Such exciting tales inspired him at an early age to establish a goal of one day becoming an author of fiction. Raised as the oldest of three boys in Bellevue, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mark began writing short stories for his grade school classmates. After graduating from Northgate High School, where he wrote for the school newspaper, he decided to pursue journalism as a career and enrolled in St. Bonaventure University, majoring in communication. At St. Bonaventure, Mark worked for the radio station, wrote for the yearbook, and was a writer and editor for the university newspaper. Aside from writing, history was his next favorite pastime and soon he found himself in a high school classroom within the Seneca Valley School District of Western Pennsylvania, where he would eventually teach every Social Studies class the school had to offer, over a span of three decades.
His favorite course to teach has been Advanced Placement World History, as he enjoys bringing the subject to life for his students with the addition of contemporary music, video segments, and of course, his love for story-telling. Mark published his first novel, "The Soles of Cyrus Eblis" in 2019. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in communication from St. Bonaventure University, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Mark lives in Pittsburgh with his wife Sandy and their golden retriever Thor. He can be reached at mark.macedonia@comcast.net.
Mark's love for, and educational knowledge within the subject of history, inspired his imagination in writing his current novel, "Beneath a Crescent Moon". His fictional story is constructed around the true story of life within the Ottoman Empire under the reign of its greatest sultan, Suleyman the Magnificent. Mark believes that nothing makes a better story than one supported by actual events, and is excited by the publication of his new novel, while busy at work writing his next.
