This is a novella, similar in length to The Old Man and the Sea, and It is the world as seen through the eyes of three children in 1960 suburban America. This is the post war generation who were raised by the WWII generation. It is their world as viewed in the America of the times. The innocents of children has an honest truth and clear vision of things that are missed once adults. The characters are two seven-year-olds, a boy and a girl, who are best friends and Carla, a nine-year-old with Leukemia. An initial fear of Carla, at a distance, turns into a special kind of love that stays with two of the characters for the rest of their lives.
