HUW LEWIS-JONES is a historian of exploration with a PhD from the University of Cambridge. He travels in the Arctic and Antarctica each year as a polar guide. He was formerly Curator at the Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge, and the National Maritime Museum, London. His books include Arctic, Ocean Portraits, In Search of the South Pole, The Conquest of Everest, which won the History Award at the Banff Mountain Festival, The Crossing of Antarctica, and Across the Arctic Ocean. KARI HERBERT is an author and publisher whose work has been featured widely in newspapers and magazines, including The Sunday Times, the Guardian, Geographical and Traveller. Her late father was polar explorer Sir Wally Herbert and her first book, The Explorer's Daughter, described her childhood growing up in an isolated community in the north of Greenland. Her latest book, Heart of the Hero, drew attention to the remarkable achievements of the wives of celebrated explorers. Huw and Kari are married and live by the sea in Cornwall.


ROBERT MACFARLANE is the author of a number of bestselling and award-winning books about exploration, travel and landscape including Mountains of the Mind, The Wild Places, The Old Ways and Landmarks. His work has been translated into many languages and widely adapted for film, television and radio. He is presently at work on Underland, a book about the lost worlds beneath our feet. He is a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
