Geoffrey Killen, himself a master craftsman, completes his examination of Egyptian furniture with this volume in which he considers boxes, chests and footstools. Museum collections from all round the world have been examined and the progress of Egyptian craftsmanship from simple pre-dynastic and Old Kingdom boxes, which usually had flat lids and solid board. Pharaonic Egypt are described in detail. The culmination of this development comes with the pieces from the New Kingdom and in the magnificent examples from the tomb of Tutankhamun. The text is complemented by many photographs and with accurate drawings of the major pieces showing how they were made. This comprehensive work is completed with a catalogue of all known objects in these classes in museums from South America to Japan.
