A former Army Captain who served in Afghanistan, Jason was elected to the Missouri state legislature in 2008 and as Missouri Secretary of State in 2012, making him the first millennial ever elected to statewide office. In 2016, while Donald Trump was winning Missouri by 19 points, Jason nearly unseated a Republican U.S. Senator. In 2017, he became a CNN Commentator, founded Let America Vote, a national campaign against voter suppression, and launched his podcast, Majority 54, which debuted at #1 on iTunes. His memoir, Outside the Wire: Ten Lessons I've learned in Everyday Courage , became a New York Times bestseller. Jason openly considered a 2020 presidential campaign before declaring instead for mayor of Kansas City.

Three months later, with the mayor's office all but won, Jason announced he was dropping out of the race and stepping back from public life to confront dangerous and worsening symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder he'd suffered in the decade since returning home from Afghanistan. Seven months of weekly VA appointments later, Jason entered the current phase of his life, one which he refers to as "post-traumatic growth." Today, he builds villages of tiny houses for homeless veterans in cities across America as the President of Veterans Community Project. ?A graduate of American University and Georgetown Law, Jason is married to his high school sweetheart, Diana.
