A story of a welsh mining community. The story is based upon the life of Big Jim Davies. As Jim departs this world, his family and friends gather at the Glais rugby club, for the reception after the funeral. As the day turns into a celebration of his life, stories are told about Jim. This book contains the story of Jim, the family man, Jim the staunch union representative and Jim the bare knuckle fighter. Jim along with his three good friends, Tommy, Glyn and Eddie, were the stalwarts of the Glais rugby club, with nobody daring to sit in their seats, in what was known as speakers corner, nor infiltrate their card school. The stories tell of the greyhound and the pork pie, the cakes laced with a secret ingredient and the bare knuckle fight at the fair ground, which left the whole village talking. Any person, or persons who has lived in the Welsh valleys will surely have known someone like Jim Davies, a legend and a gentleman.
