When my children were small I often told them stories at bedtime, but since there are only so many variations of The Three Bears, The Four Bears, etc., I soon began telling them true tales and facts such as the height of numerous public buildings and how many push-ups I had done the previous day. This led, to my astonishment, to the discovery that they had no idea of the origins of the food they ate every day. NO! Milk does NOT come from the grocery store! How can any school teach that wheat grows from the ground! However, I realized they were much too young to be told the actual details, so I simplified and exaggerated to make the stories more interesting for small, uninformed children with short attention spans.
