When the average person thinks about church, their immediate attention goes to the building in which they gather weekly to fellowship. While this concept is partially true, it's not the whole truth. A church can be anywhere there are two witnesses of the truth. "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:20) This gathering can convene in a house, tent, field, hotel, campground, mountain, valley, or anywhere on earth. The word church in English, comes from the Latin word (Ecclesia), and Greek (Ekklesia), which means to be "called out." The word itself in not a religious term, but secular. It was taken from the concept of being called out to a town hall meeting.

In fact, what we traditionally call church, (a building) is not the church, people are the church. We are God's spiritual house, a holy priesthood built upon lively stones. (1st Peter 2:5) Having said that, followers of Christ must understand that they were not called by God to function in a vacuum; we are part of a global kingdom family. Christ is the head of the church, and He prayed for us to become one. (John 17:21) When He rose from the dead, He gave spiritual gifts to men. (Ephesians 4:8) These gifts should function in the earth (kingdom) just like the various branches of the military during a war. They all band together and fight the opposing forces, not each other. This is a concept that is not understood by most church leaders.

Our kingdom assignment is to win the lost to Christ, disciple them to maturity in order to rebuild the foundation of the kingdom, which is the family. We can only be effective in empowering the family if we know a "lot" about spiritual warfare. It is at the foundational level of families that Satan is able to do the most damage to the body of Christ.
