SUITE FOR MOZAMBIQUE is a poetic journey that takes the reader from the history and struggle of the African continent to the streets of Brooklyn, New York. Gale P. Jackson is a poet, writer and cultural historian who received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship for her work in griot traditions and whose work has appeared in many publications and anthologies including Callalou, African American Review, Artist and Influence and Essence. Carole Byard's awards for painting, sculpture, and drawing include two National Endowment for the Arts Visual Arts Fellowships, grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Gottlieb Foundation, and the Ford Motors Institute of International Education; and for her children?s books, she has received the Caldecott Medal and two Coretta Scott King Awards.
