Jazz saxophonist and arranger Ray Sherwood has been touring the length and breadth of America with the Jack Donovan Orchestra. When he ends up in San Francisco, he is approached by young composer Gail Prentice who wants his help in orchestrating her highly original composition Swing Around the Sun, which is due to premier at the Golden Gate Exposition in the bay's newly created Treasure Island. Within moments of meeting her, however, Ray is witness to the horrific sight of a young woman plunging from the sky to her death. Drawn to the charming Gail and into the mystery of the woman who has had such a macabre impact upon the island, Ray soon needs to bring all of his daring and improvisational skills to bear as a trail of murder and espionage leads him higher and higher against a backdrop of America preparing for war. Another gripping novel with a generous helping of forties big-band atmosphere from Edgar Award-winning author Rupert Holmes, Swing is a book that irresistibly gets under your skin like a tune you won't forget.
