Tony Lock was an aggressive, attacking left-arm spinner who ideally complemented the subtleties of Jim Laker's off-spin when Surrey were winning the County Championship between 1952-1958 and in England's Ashes wins of 1953 and 1956. When omitted from the England party for the 1962/63 tour of Australia, he accepted an invitation to play for Western Australia and went on to spend the rest of his career there (eight seasons) as an outstanding orthodox bowler, influential captain and later coach. As well as the successes of Lock's career, the book tackles the 'throwing' issue that led to his emigration to Australia and the final years of his life, including the scandalous allegations of sexual abuse of which he was later cleared. Impeccably researched and written by a former winner of the Cricket Society Literary Award, this book remembers Tony Lock as one of the great cricket personalities of his era.
