Ray V. Herren has been actively involved in agriculture for most of his life. He grew up on a diversified farm where he played a major role in the production of livestock. He obtained a BS in Agricultural Education from Auburn University, a Masters in Agribusiness Education from Alabama A & M, and a Doctorate in Vocational Education (emphasis in Agricultural Education) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He recently retired as the head of the Department of Agriculture Leadership, Education, and Communication at the University of Georgia in Athens. He has served on numerous committees at the local, state, regional, national and international level. Most recently he served on the national taskforce to develop FFA Programs for Middle school Agricultural Education Programs and the National Committee for Career Development Events. Dr.

Herren has been actively involved with the National FFA Alumni, serving on the National Council and as National President. His scholarly productivity includes 26 journal articles, 41 invited or refereed presentations, and 4 books. He has several awards for service and holds the prestigious College of Education Outstanding Teaching award. Dr. Herren is the author of several highly successful Delmar titles, including Agricultural Mechanics: Fundamentals and Applications, and The Science of Animal Agriculture.
