It was his experiences in Libya and Saudi Arabia that gave David Hay the inspiration for his latest book; a gripping page-turner which focuses on how the UK could prevent an attack from Islamic fundamentalists. 'Jambiya' is the author's second novel and is of the Counter Terrorism genre. In it we are introduced to Lord Kabir Anwar of Leyton who works tirelessly for the integration of Asian minority groups into British society. However, someone on his team is taking advantage of his unfettered access to certain suspect individuals. They have already been recruited for a suicide mission. They are made up of frustrated Syrian returnees and young British-Pakistani idealists who simply want to protect the British Moslem community. We pick up the story in its final stages, when two key players join the group. They are the last pieces of the jigsaw puzzle; Imran Iqbal, a Syrian bomb maker, and Naveed Nazir, an Egyptian mechanical engineer.
Their function is to transform ordinary delivery trucks into attack vehicles. The scheme has been progressing over the last two years and still remains undetected by the British Security Services. At the eleventh hour Faisal Khan, an Intelligence Officer, and Tom Canning from MI6 Digital Intelligence detect an electronic spoor left by the terrorists. They work closely with Angus McClusky of the Counter Terrorism Unit and Inspector John Maddox from Special Branch to try and identify people, places and the purpose behind the plot. Unfortunately, Lord Bolden, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Internal Security, puts political pressure on the department. He is trying to get Jo Pullen removed. Her department has a vital National Defence role, in monitoring all suspects returning from the Daesh inspired wars abroad. They are being assessed as future security threats to the UK.
Right from the start the reader is aware of the horrendous conclusion if this plan succeeds. The tension is ratcheted up as the authorities seem slow to react and are bogged down in departmental infighting. The author skilfully weaves these merging strands towards its inevitable conclusion. or is it?It is a story that must be told. It is a film that must be made. And you will find it very difficult to put down once you start reading. The book/kindle can be obtained from Amazon. The author is available for interview on harlandhay@gmail.
