Figures of language (or figures of speech) are commonly used by the Biblical writers. Whether Old Testament or New Testament, the various books are replete with literary figures such as simile, analogy, metaphor, personification, understatement, irony and many more. Similarly, the Bible is filled with rhetorical devices used for both adding strength to arguments and adding interest, emphasis, and energy to every kind of writing, from narrative to argument. The many rhetorical devices covered in the book include anaphora, conduplicatio, allusion, parallelism, chiasmus and many others. All of the examples are quotations from various translations of the BIble. Also included is information about euphemisms, sentence structures (cumulative and periodic), logical reasoning techniques (a pari, a foriori, rhetorical question), logical fallacies (ad hominem, ad populum). Also included are study and discussion questions for those who want to use the book for small group book study.
