Michelle Suzette Jones, PhD BioDr. Michelle Suzette Jones is currently based at the University of Bath, Department of Education. She was formerly Deputy Director and Associate Professor at the Institute of Educational Leadership, (IEL) University of Malaya. She is internationally recognised for her expertise in educational leadership, school improvement, creating professional learning communities and blended & flipped learning design. Whilst in Malaysia, Dr Jones''s expertise in blended flippedlearning inhigher education helped to shape the design and development of two new programmes: the Masters in Educational Leadership (MEL) and the PhD Advanced Research Methodology Course. In addition to co-ordinating the Post Graduate Courses for the Institute Dr Jones also managed the Institute''s online learning platforms as well as staff CPD. At the University of Bath Dr Jones is contributing to the Post Graduate teaching within the Department of Education and is a member of the University Online Programme Board. She is the Editor in Chief of the journal ''School Leadership and Management''.
Dr. Jones commitment to educational excellence has driven her entire career. Before joining the University of Bath in 2017 and the Institute of Educational Leadership in 2012, Dr. Jones served as a Headteacher (Principal) of a school in one of the highest areas of deprivation in the UK. In 2006 she was awarded the title Inspirational Headteacher (Principal) of the Year and was invited to Downing Street for an audience with the prime minister in recognition for her efforts in securing high levels of sustained school improvement and effectiveness: Her work with over 300 schools and 800 teachers at the district level was deemed ''outstanding''. In 2008 she was seconded to the Welsh Government, UK as an Education Adviser assisting with the implementation of Professional Learning Communities in over 2000 schools. She has written comprehensively on system reform through building teachers capacity: One of her co-authored books Professional learning Communities in Action (with Professor Alma Harris) has been translated into several languages including Russian, Lithuanian and Spanish. Dr.
Jones was awarded her PhD in Education from the University of Warwick University, UK. She has been an Education consultant for the World Bank since 2010 and supports ministerial R and D projects in Russia. She has also been working with a variety of government agencies in England, Russia, Singapore, Australia and Malaysia to contribute to the design and delivery of their leadership and professional learning programmes. Most recently, Dr Jones has been appointed as a Research Fellow of the APCLC, Hong Kong Institute of Education. Her research interests involve: Leadership preparation and practice; improving schools in challenging circumstances, professional learning and innovative pedagogies, curriculum and assessment. Dr Jones is currently involved in three major research projects: · Co Principal Investigator of the ''7 System Leadership Study'', involving seven differentially performing education systems; · Principal Investigator, ''Leading Learning for Educational Effectiveness: Instructional Leadership Practices of Primary School Principals in Malaysia.
