Hearts That Are Pierced : A Novel
Naomi was only a slave girl, but she had learned the lessons of invisibility every slave learns. As she served in the house of Hiram, the merchant of textiles, she heard rumors and discussion about the new prophet who had come to Jerusalem. He healed the sick, raised the dead, and hinted that he was the long-awaited Messiah. Naomi was as confused about the man as everyone else in the house, and in the town. Was he the Messiah, or was he just another prophet--or even a false one. Discussion among the women raised some questions, and answered others about the man the Romans called "Jesus, King of the Jews.".
