Will be published alongside Never Did the Fire , enabling each to support the audience for the other. The inaugural title in our Untranslated series. Reminiscent of This Little Art , Hahn's translation diary takes us deep into the small choices, and far-ranging vision, required for the translation of Eltit's masterful novel. The author is a celebrated translator but also has a very light touch--the book is funny and never self-serious, while taking the responsibility of translation entirely seriously. Hahn will be in the US for several months in fall 2021, as the artist in residence at the University of Iowa's MFA in translation, and visiting several other programs, offering terrific opportunities for promotion and future course adoption. There's a real excitement in watching Hahn discover the novel with us, and in seeing him unpack and revel in all the choices and challenges that Eltit's work contains.
