Textbook of Diagnostic Ultrasonography encompasses the four main divisions within ultrasonography: General/Abdominal Sonography, Vascular Sonography, Obstetric/Gynecologic Sonography, and an introduction to Echocardiography. All areas include discussions of pediatric considerations as appropriate. General/Abdominal and Vascular uses a body-systems approach, whereas Ob/Gyn uses a chronologic approach to development during pregnancy and an anatomic approach to gynecologic pathology. A two-chapter survey of echocardiography is provided for those students who may choose later to specialize in it. Each chapter covers patient history; normal anatomy, including cross-sectional anatomy; ultrasound techniques; pathology; and the very popular related laboratory findings. Review questions in short answer and essay formats complete each chapter. Reviewers commented consistently that trying to use the color inserts of the fourth edition was cumbersome. The new edition will have four-color throughout.

The fifth edition of Textbook of Diagnostic Ultrasonography will include more than 60% new halftones as well as four-color rendering of the line art. Sonographers can tell from the images whether the newer equipment was used, so the updated images are well worth the investment. Content/Pedagogy Chapter outlines, chapter key terms with definitions, and expanded review questions These pedagogic tools provide a teachable text that allows instructors to identify topics for easy student access and to make curriculum planning simpler. Additionally, the availability of a computerized test bank of multiple choice questions eases the instructors class preparation burden. Clinical diseases analysis and summary tables of pathology Summarizing disease processes and appearances is extremely helpful for students who learn all of sonography in only 1-2 years. These valuable tools save instructors time as well. Ultrasound Tips as a separate heading One of the most highly acclaimed features of Hagen-Ansert has always been the emphasis on technique. These tips--now emphasized in the new, 4-color design--truly distinguish it from its competitors.

Additional information on patient histories now shown in pathology tables Because sonography is commonly the first test performed in a patients work-up, sonographers often need to take histories themselves because full histories have not been gathered by physicians. Indeed, information from patient histories can influence which views the sonographer chooses to save and what the sonographer looks for on a scan. Visual appeal Additional views of specific pathologies uphold Hagen-Anserts reputation as comprehensive. A completely new four-color design emphasizes that Textbook of Diagnostic Ultrasonography can be used not only as a reference text, but especially as a teaching text, created with the student and instructor in mind. This means color photos will be near their text mentions, instead of being collected in inserts, a feature many reviewers requested. Revised halftone program . All images will be digitally scanned from originals for optimal quality. Over 60% of the halftone images will be completely new to this edition! Line art has been redrawn in full-color , adding dimension, visual appeal, and enhancing teaching value.

Ancillary New to this edition is an instructors resource CD, including a computerized test bank. Our reviewers told us this ancillary will be an adoption clincher. The IRCD will contain lecture outlines, teaching tips, a test bank, and the Electronic Image Collection.
