Salt grew up in Laverstone, but the events of That Night still prey upon him. His stepfather, Paul, killed his pregnant mother, then ran off into the night dragging her daughter, Sally, with him. In the hospital, John's brother Steven was born postumously and while John went to college and never returned, his newborn brother was adopted and raised by their grandmother. Now Gran has died and John must return for the funeral and face the past he never could face before, and the bodies he left behind.
