Interest in high and why man distributed his activities where he did over the landscape is a comparatively recent phenomenon in archaeology. In 1968 Willey identified the total landscape distribution of sites as being the most difficult to comprehend. Part of this difficulty is attributed by Willey (1968:216) to difficulty is defining the size of or the boundaries of the territorial unit under consideration.
