Comfort objects aren't limited to security blankets, a fact that's as true for mouselings as it is for children, at least in this charming picture book. Spindle, a little mouse, loves the multicolored sweater Grandma knitted for him. He wears it all day, every day, and clutches it during a nighttime thunderstorm. Gradually he outgrows it, but even after Grandma knits him a new sweater, he still carries the old one everywhere he goes. His resourceful grandmother turns it into a stuffed rabbit that becomes Spindle's constant companion. Simply written and well paced, the story includes moments that will resonate with many children, such as Spindle sniffing his sweater because it smells "a bit funny" after Mama has washed it. From cozy mouse-house interiors to scenes celebrating the natural world, Gill's inviting mixed-media artwork illustrates characters and events in the story, while adding intriguing details for kids to discover. An inviting picture book with plenty of child appeal.
