Jack Shear is a photographer whose passion for the medium dates to his youth inLos Angeles. His work emphasizes portraiture and nudes and is represented in severalpermanent museum collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Artand the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. His work has beenexhibited in solo shows at the Yale School of Art in New Haven and Le MuséeTerritorial in Saint Barthelémy, among other venues. He has published two previousbooks, Four Marines and Other Portraits and Short Season: Portrait of a Minor LeagueBaseball Team. In 2016, an exhibition and accompanying catalogue, Borrowed Light:Selections from the Jack Shear Collection, featured selections from a gift of over twothousand art-historical photographs he donated to the Tang Teaching Museum atSkidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. Shear lives and works in New YorkCity and Spencertown, New York.
