Xiaowen Guan (Ph.D.) is a Professor of Communication Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. She is also the current program coordinator and director of the Strategic Communication: Advertising and Public Relations program. She has been teaching the undergraduate intercultural communication course regularly for 15 years.
Xiaowen''s research expertise on intercultural communication examines communication across different nationalities, races and ethnicities, genders, and generations. Her research examines how individual and cultural factors influence communication outcomes using large samples and statistical analyses. She often collaborates with international scholars to examine interdisciplinary issues. Her teaching and research expertise extends to her practice in intercultural competence training and consulting. She has been invited to talk at international and multinational organizations and has led cultural training workshops for St. Thomas faculty, staff and students on improving intercultural competence. Her awards include the DEI faculty fellowship at her university to advance the institution''s strategic priority of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion and the Global Citizenship Award from the University of St. Thomas.
