Designed as a practical workbook for young people, this book is about what it means to be visually impaired. It is not about how the eye works or about medical conditions that affect people's eyesight. Nor is it just about how the lives and experiences of visually impaired people differ from those of sighted people. It is about the lives and experiences of people who are visually impaired: in schools, jobs, families and so forth. Just as there are differences between sighted people, depending for instance on whether they are young or old, male or female, there are many differences between people who are visually impaired. Based on extensive consultation with visually impaired people and the experience of the author, who is herself visually impaired, the book will allow the reader to discover the world of the those with little or no sight.
