In it, he does an outstanding job of introducing those new to the field to major figures from a multitude of the world's mythologies, but at the same time includes enough detail and breadth to provide new insight even to the most seasoned mythographers. Fletcher's writing is pithy, insightful, and not infrequently causes an eruption of laughter via his footnotes. Adding to the joy of reading are the wonderful illustrations throughout the book, from a variety of artists who are all masters of their craft. In fact, the only criticisms I have about this book are that it's too damn short.
