Third and Long
Chris Fisher's third short fiction collection weaves the love of sports - both playing and spectating - with the realities of life in small communities. These are not usually the games from the cover of Sports Illustrated or ESPN. They are the sports day ball tournament, a pickup football game, a no-contact hockey league. Here are young men wondering what life has in store for them, whether to stay and play with the guys they grew up with or test their skills in bigger leagues down the road. Some guys who did get out, come back and measure, for the first time, what they've actually given up.
