Travel! Adventure! Romance! What could possibly go wrong? A hilarious romp around the U.S. & Europe in a 1970s Wayback Machine. Raised in the safe, protective bubble of the 1950s, free-spirited "good girl," Fay Faron, thumbs her nose at her generation's expectation that she marry and procreate, instead taking off for a madcap life of travel, adventure and romance. Fay soon learns that navigating her way through the promiscuous world of the 1970s will take a set of skills her Sunday school teacher never taught her. Powering through a series of revenge plagues rained down from The Almighty-Hey, she is breaking ALL the rules, after all-Fay must learn to recreate herself or abandon her road-trip-as-a-lifestyle existence and retreat to the soul-crushing community from which she escaped. Part historical snapshot, part travelogue and part confessional, this laugh-out-loud memoir is the story of every woman who has pondered the road not taken or grappled with the guilt of not being able to live up to rules she didn't even make Do you even remember when you were a teetotaling virgin? Don't answer that question (you know you'll lie) or begin to blush and stutter. Because just in time comes Fay Faron's Journey of a Teetotaling Virgin.
She actually was one and has a good memory. You can both blush and stutter but you'll be laughing all the way. Then you can look back on your own journey with a little more perspective. Perfect timing for a great summer vacation read. Just do it! - Chris Wiltz, The Last Madam * Great book! I was young and adventurous and exploring other countries during the time period covered in this book. I identified with the author and thoroughly enjoyed her writing and her adventures. I liked the part at the beginning of each chapter that had some news and the music, TV, & movies that were popular then. It took me right back to that time in my life.
- It is a fun read! This book is hard to put down. It is fun read with some serious themes mixed in. Ms Faron's playful use of words kept a smile on my face throughout the book. Her adventures are amazing - she takes us with her around the world. I hope she is writing more books that I can be entertained by. Thanks, Fay Faron, for a good time! * Great fast read, heart warming, well told, fair price. Funny, well written, leaves you wanting more about the author's life!! Hope there is a sequel soon. *Delightful memoir .
Fun, breezy, optimistic and perfectly captures the time. A lovely, engaging thoroughly enjoyable read from a clearly joyful spirit! *An Engaging Read Back in the early 70s a poster commonly found on the walls of a good many young people was a map of the United States. Fay's account of her exploration of the world both inside and outside of herself took her to all of these cities and more. Much of what she experienced was at odds with a very conservative religious and political up bringing. Fay defines and redefines herself as she moves from city to city and country to country, bringing a rich sense of humor into every circumstance. The chapter headings include references to the social influences at the time of each pivotal event. As someone who lived through these events as well, it was fun comparing my experience with Fay's. *Funny yet poignant.
Fay tells a great story and by the time I finished I was wishing I had been lucky enough to have crossed paths with her in my own misspend youth! - Fay's adventures are amazing. She takes us with her around the world." - "This could have been my story - young, idealistic, naive, exploring the world on a shoestring budget." - "Fun, breezy, optimistic. Perfectly captures the time." - "A lovely, engaging, thoroughly enjoyable read from a clearly joyful spirit!".
