This Sixth Edition has been updated and revised to reflect changes in the market, the development of appraisal methods and the subsequent changes in professional practice. Revisions have been made to the sections on the economic and legal framework and investment valuation. The final section on investment appraisal has also been revised and a new chapter on investment risk included. Nigel Enever, A Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, is a former Senior Lecturer at Thames Polytechnic, but for the past 20 years has been running his own surveying practice in Brighton. His interest in valuation and writing, teaching, practice and research in this field go back many years. In 1980/81 he was Reasearch Consultant for the RICS/ Polytechnic of the South Bank research project into valuation methods, and in 1983/84 he was a visitnig lecturer in Valuatio at the City University.David Isaac, also a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, came from a background in economics and business to become a surveyor and valuer.


He has some 25 years' experience of property valuation, development and management in private practice and in the public sector. He is now Professor of Real Estate Management and Head of Real Estate and Housing at the University of Greenwich.
