Jan Edmonson is a lifetime artist who specializes in watercolors but is also skilled on other media such as acrylics and pen and ink. Her training began in New Mexico, where she studied under two successful New Mexican artists, Frank Walker and Elmer Schooley. She was awarded an art scholarship at Highlands' University, studying there for one year before moving to Quito, Ecuador, where she created vivid watercolor scenes of South American locales. Later, she continued her art studies for two years at New Mexico State University. She also lived for two hears in Tananarive, Madagascar, painting abstract and local scenes and teaching figure drawing and watercolor painting. As a result of her world travels and living in various other locations such as Albuquerque, San Francesco. Austin and Rockport, Texas, Jan takes a fresh look at diverse habitats. It was on the Texas Gulf Coast that she developed painting techniques with watercolor, acrylics and pen and ink for coastal scenes.
¿Her interest in early Scandinavian maps evolved into painting coastal charts with boats. Jan has also directed her interests toward architectural renderings and house plans, having studied with an architect and building contractor. She has excellent illustrative skills, as displayed in the intricate detail of her renderings. She currently resides high on a hill in Lago Vista, Texas, with a magnificent view of Lake Travis. Her love of animals, combines with a innovative approach, results in her ability to capture their personalities in highly expressive and sensitive watercolors.
