Few people today know the grievances listed in the 1776 Declaration of Independence.It's time for an updated list of grievances, and sadly, a new declaration of independence - a new Declaration of Independence, the 2016 Declaration of Independence.Now, it will take some time before we get this ratified. We won't have all the signatures in 2016. We'll be adding signatures in 2017 and perhaps later.It won't be a declaration signed by a small few. It will be a declaration signed by many, the masses.This is a Declaration of Independence which emphasizes the need to alter the existing system.

While we were tempted to list grievances that reflect the many current concerns that people have, we instead adhered closely to those listed in 1776 and we explained that the current grievances fit under the same headings as those of 1776.And so, we have as much right today as they did then to declare our independence and our right to alter the current system.And really, this is being ratified by all those who sign it. Anyone who signs it is declaring their independence. It was eleven years from the time the 1776 Declaration was written to the time that the Constitution of 1787 was drafted and ratified. We're not putting in place a new Constitution, we are putting in place merely a statement that enough is enough - and it is a statement which demands peaceful, non-violent change and recognition of the rights we all are entitled to UNDER THE EXISTING CONSTITUTION, and a recognition of the injustices that need to be remedied."God bless your soul," a person says in the café where we type, just as I type that sentence - October 26, 2016 4:24 PM.
