On December 14th of this year Father Dolan will celebrate his tenth anniversary of ordination as a Catholic Priest. He entered the seminary at age 62, one year after his beloved wife, Loretta, of 38 years died from breast cancer. He thereby left behind, in a sense, the years spent as husband, father, grandfather, retired naval officer and practicing physician. Father Dolan was born into a devout Catholic family in New York City and attended Catholic schools where the Church's doctrines, such as the Real Presence, Apostolic succession, the Sacraments and core values were taught unapologetically. He always felt powerfully drawn to the one calling that all of us have, THE VOCATION, to know, love and serve God in this world and be happy with Him forever in heaven. To be sure, in his formative years, there was a tremendous diversity of cultures but an absolute unity of understanding and purpose with regard to what it meant to be Catholic. Although imperfections in thought, word and deed were common, contrition was expressed, absolution was sought, life was amended, grace was restored and life went on better than before. Catholic was not then, nor is it now, a label; it is and always will be a life lived! It seems that is not the case today.
