Excerpt from The Early Records of the Town of Lunenberg, Massachusetts Including That Part Which Is Now Fitchburg, 1719-1764: A Complete Transcript of the Town Meetings and Select-Men's Records Contained in the First Two Books of the General Records of the Town, Also a Copy of All the Vital Statistics of the Town Previous to the Year 1764 Gentlemen: The undersigned petition your Honorable Body, and respectfully represent that the preservation of the records of the town of Fitchburg, prior to its incorporation as a city, and also such records as may be obtainable of the town of Lunenburg and its early proprietors, prior to the formation of the town of Fitchburg, is a matter of great importance; and therefore they respectfully pray that the city council of the Qty of Fitchburg may take such measures as shall be deemed expedient to secure and preserve an additional copy or copies of said records, to be deposited in such fire-proof situation, other than the city hall, as may be authorized by your council.
