Timothy Agnew, BA,NCTMB began his studyof human anatomy in 1982at the Ringling College ofArt and Design in Sarasota,FL. In drawing the humanfigure, he realized he couldapply his new knowledge tohelp his occasional competitiverunning injuries. Afterworking in the art field invarious capacities, he returned to school and earneda degree in English literature while working as a certified personal trainer. Seeing a need for a more hand'sonapproach to wellness, Timothy shifted his studiesto physical therapy, and applied to different programsin the hope of once again returning to school. Whena client introduced him to renowned kinesiologistAaron L. Mattes, he became fascinated with kinesiologyand its more specific focus on human movement.After serving an internship with him, Aaron convincedTimothy to pursue kinesiology as a course of study. Hecompleted the ATC (Athletic Trainer Certified) courserequirements under the guidance of Dr.
Carl Cramer atBarry University in Miami, and finished the program atthe University of South Florida. Upon completing hiscollege track, he became a nationally certified massagetherapist. He continued his studies in orthopedic rehabilitation,including symposiums with the ClevelandClinic of Sports Health, focusing on upper and lowerextremity dysfunctions. Having begun training in theJapanese martial art aikido in 1991, he applied the philosophyof aikido with his kinesiology knowledge andopened a private practice concentrating in rehabilitation.At his clinic in Sarasota, he specializes in improvingthe quality of life for his patients, which includeOlympic athletes, renowned artists and dancers, as wellas stroke, MS, and Parkinson's patients. Timothy hasbeen an educator in the health fi eld for over 15 years,presenting his modality Clinical Flexibility and TherapeuticExercise (CFTE) seminars to international andregional conferences, students, and the general public.He is a member of the American College of SportsMedicine (ACSM) and served as a continuing educationprovider for the American Council on Exercise(ACE) and currently the National Certifi cation Boardfor Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).In 1998, Timothy formed Intent Multimedia, an educationalmedia company that produced the DVD's CFTE:Assisted Clinical Flexibility, and Dynamic Flexibility: aSafe and Effective Self-Stretching Program, as well asthe The Dynamic Flexibility Manual: a Safe and EffectiveSelf-Stretching Program.
Timothy continues to playan active role in the production of his media, includinghuman anatomy animations used in his videos. Healso wrote, directed, and edited his most recent DVD,designed for the general public. His current project isa brand new edition of the Dynamic Flexibility manualthat is to be used with the Dynamic flexibility DVD. Anavid reader and writer, Timothy's short stories have appearedin The Roanoke Review, Skylark (Purdue UniversityCalmont), and the anthology A Cup of Comfort, andhe has won regional awards for his fi ction.
