A story about the early settlement of the Fylde area. A viking brings his family to farm the fertile land of the coastal plain in April 781. Follow the adventures of Agmunder, his wife, Svala and their son, Erik as they start a new life and build a farm. Agmunder tries to be a good man as he makes friends and enemies. The story moves through the farming, to building a fortress, battling a pirate at sea and other Viking raiders. The book is a vehicle for exploring the ways our familiar place names, and personal names, have come about in early British history. The violent scenes has been sympathetically written for the young reader. This book would be suitable for the 10 - 15 age group.
