VMware is a Virtual Machine, which is basically software that frees users from the "one machine, one operating system" model of computing. It enables multiple operating systems and applications to run concurrently on a single machine, without disk partitioning or re-booting. In other words, you can have Linux as your main operating system and run Windows on top of your Linux desktop at the same time.
