Determined to serve as a job creation activist, Julie Colombino-Billingham founded a business in Haiti that uses the ingenious wisdom of its countrymen to create great jobs. Under Billlingham's leadership, the past decade has been a dramatic evolution from earthquake recovery into a fashion forward business. Partnerships that have enhanced the brand over the years include: The United Nations, Kenneth Cole, Eileen Fisher, USAID and the Clinton Foundation. Julie is the 2018 recipient of the Southern Living Beauty Awards for her work as a female entrepreneur. She was a finalist in the 2017 Digicel Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Haiti. She is the 2016 Martin Bell Scholar, and recently received her MBA from Rollins Crummer Graduate School of Business. Julie's book, From Death to Dollars, will be available in 2024. It is based on her real-life encounters with the 2010 Haiti earthquake recovery and building the fashion brand Deux Mains.
Deux Mains is a Fair Trade Haitian brand that handcrafts sustainable luxury leather handbag, shoe and small leather goods for global distribution. We use only raw materials that are found, made, or sourced locally on the island. The Deux Mains factory is 100% solar powered and women-owned. We private and white label for other brands who want to manufacture in a sustainable and ethical manner. We are currently the only shoe making factory in Port-au-Prince that manufactures school shoes for local school children.
