This educational resource features twenty works by sixteen important African-American artists--including Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Horace Pippin, and Faith Ringgold--all represented in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each painting, drawing, photograph, sculpture, or multimedia work is reproduced in full color with biographical information about the artist, accompanied by a visual analysis and questions for classroom discussion. Also included are poems by African-American writers that provide additional context for studying these masterworks. The boxed set includes a booklet containing background information, discussion questions, selected poetry, bibliographies, and resources, as well as two posters, twenty-four slides, and an audio CD featuring artists and poets speaking about and reciting their own work. Published in association with The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
