This second edition provides an in-depth, clause-by-clause analysis of and commentary on the major international Conventions and standard form contracts of carriage by land and air. The book contains new editions of two standard forms of contract for internal carriage by rail, citation of the relevant case law and statutes, and footnote annotations and cross-references for each clause or provision. Major updates include an extended commentary on the Montreal Convention 1999 for carriage by air, which came into force in the UK in 2004 as well as the Uniform Rules Concerning the Contract of International Carriage of Goods by Rail (CIM) 1999, which came into force in 2006. The section on carriage of goods by inland water has been completely re-written to take account of recent developments in the inland water carriage of goods industry, and it includes extensive reference to British Waterways Conditions for the Carriage of Freight 2003 and Waterways Freight Vessel Conditions 2003. Also provided are notes on industry developments and their legal ramifications. The book features commentary on the UK government's recent initiatives on the use of canals for the inland carriage of freight, the system of grants available through the Freight Facility Scheme, and consultation drafts on the fitness for purpose inspection requirements for vessels on inland navigations issued by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
