This book reviews the dynamics of child soldiering on the Myanmar-China border (especially the Kachin and Shan States of Myanmar) and explains how it differs from that in other countries and areas. Due to the presence of structural factors (e.g., decentralization of security, inadequate manpower resources, insufficient legal enforcement and chronic poverty) that have an impact on child soldiering and other challenges, Myanmar has limited power to reduce child soldiering, and there is no optimal solution for reducing child soldiering on the Myanmar-China border in the foreseeable future. Instead, the book introduces the transnational public-private partnership approach as a second best solution and proposes suitable countermeasures.".
