After taking part in an audacious robbery Davy Linkwater learns from his friend Welf the Goblin, about the wizard Nijan and his search for the magical diamond which he calls the Great Marquess, Davy tells his friend Alycon the Elf about Nijan and the Great Marquess and Alycon instantly realizes what the grave consequences will be if Nijan succeeds in his endeavours.
