Rob Carter, a native Utahn, was born and raised on the east bench of Salt Lake City, where he freely explored and fished the canyons and streams of the majestic Wasatch Range. He travels westward regularly to fish with his childhood fishing buddies and to wander the deserts of Utah. Rob is currently Professor Emeritus of Graphic Design at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he taught full-time for 37 years. He is author of 14 internationally published books on the subjects of typography, book design, and graphic design. Among them is Typographic Design: Form and Communication, which after 35 years remains one of the most influential textbooks on the subject of typography. Rob, an avid fly fisher and tyer, is designer of the book, America's Favorite Flies.I have worn many hats during my life, an outdoor writer, an English educator and a children's book author, a farrier and most importantly, a fly fishing Bum! I have had the fortunate opportunity to fish all over the world. But, my favorite place to fish is my home state of Michigan.

I have been a fly fisher for more than 45 years, and nothing has given me more enjoyment and fulfillment in my life, other than my children, is my demented obsession with fly fishing. John Henley, photographer for America's Favorite Flies, was introduced to photography as a student at the San Francisco Art Institute. John has earned deep respect for his personal work as well as work for clients ranging from Geico to Santa Fe Tourism to Yamaha to Pinehurst Resort. John Bryan has written about fishing for Sports Illustrated, Gray's Sporting Journal, Fly Fisherman, and other publications. Among his books is Take Me Fishing (2007) for which he gathered 50 living writers who provided their writings pro bono and from which 100% of the proceeds were dedicated to healthier fisheries. Participants ranged from Howell Raines to John McPhee to Joan Wulff to President Jimmy Carter - several of whom are participating in America's Favorite Flies.
