Flor and Blanchefleur : A Play in Four Acts
Flor and Blanchefleur is based on a medieval legend that was sung by the troubadours and went on to become an archetype for other great romances such as Tristan and Isolde and Romeo and Juliet. It could be seen as perfect for class 11 but there is enough humour and realism for it to be possible for class 12 also. It is the story of the coming together of the lily and the Rose and the initiation journey of its hero who has to unite fire and water. Flor is the character who began the Grail stream in Europe, the grandfather of Parsifal. This play could be shortened and used in a seventh or eigth grade as well.
