After a difficult, exhausting but highly remunerative fraud trial, David and Wendy decide to take their young daughter Rose on a cruise to Norway to get away from cases, chambers and city life. A chance meeting leads to David being instructed in a particularly difficult murder trial. The case appears straight forward at first, even though the defendant's own friends give evidence against him. However, a series of surprising developments in the case make David wonder what his strategy should be and whether he should ever have taken the case on in the first place.
