This booklet defines the World Bank's role in helping Asian countries develop environmental policies that will sustain the region's impressive economic gains. It also describes the conditions for future environment-related assistance. A general framework forimproving environmental management features ways of strengthening public institutions, increasing public and private investment in the environment, and cleaning up technologies that create large-scale pollution. More specific management strategies for industry, energy, urban areas, natural resources, and water resources are provided.
