Dan Bessie and Charles Taylor had the good fortune to personally know Harry Burnett, Forman Brown, and Richard "Roddy" Brandon, aka The Yale Puppeteers. The nephew of Harry Burnett, Dan Bessie spent decades enjoying fleeting moments with these three dashing figures who operated The Turnabout Theatre (1941-1956) on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles. Charles Taylor would come to work with the Puppeteers in their post-Turnabout days, developing a breadth of knowledge about the inner workings of their puppets, songs, and sketches. In this companion to the Los Angeles Public Library's exhibition Life on a String: The Yale Puppeteers and The Turnabout Theatre (Los Angeles Central Library, Getty Gallery, April 2 - September 27, 2020), Dan Bessie shares mementos from his personal collection, and he and Charles Taylor reminisce about their time with The Yale Puppeteers.
