In 1967 Celtic's Lisbon Lions set out across the Atlantic in a bid to add the World Club Championship to their European crown. In their way stood the formidable Racing Club de Avellaneda, champions of South America. That game itself has gone down in footballing folklore as one of the most ill-tempered, violent and controversial of all time. The record states that Racing Club beat Celtic by two goals to one in the decider, but the match reports were of a ninety-minute brawl rather than a game of football. However, what came to be known as the Battle of Montevideo was the culmination of a much more intriguing story - that of a journey into previously uncharted footballing territory by a group of young men from Glasgow. Evoking a bygone era, and including many rare photographs of events on and off the pitch, Brian Belton tells the story of a clash between two very different cultures. Book jacket.
