J.M. Barrie's classic comedy of social class and the corrupting influence of power. Lord Loam of Loam Hall believes that social class distinctions are artificial, whereas his butler, Crichton, believes they are a natural result of civilization. Their roles are suddenly reversed upon being shipwreck on a desert island. The only castaway with any practical survival skills, Crichton reluctantly assumes leadership among his high society fellow castaways. As time passes, Crichton's rule becomes increasingly dictatorial. Upon rescue, however, the old social order is restored.
But are the former castaways any wiser for their troubles?.
